LIVERPOOL AFTER LEVERKUSEN STAR

Liverpool are reportedly after Bayer Leverkusen forward Julian Brandt according to reports from Germany. Brandt is considered one of the brightest German talent and the 22-year-old is understood to be on the radar of several clubs.

German tabloid Bild reports that Liverpool are among the clubs lining up for his signature with the club looking at paying his release clause of £21.5million in the summer. Liverpool manager Jurgen is ready to strengthen his attacking options in the summer and Brandt fits the bill.

The club are looking for a player that can handle the requirements of playing the high tempo style favoured by the German and Brandt is used to a similar style of play at Leverkusen. The 22-year-old was one of the impressive players for his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has continued his good performances this season.

He has developed his game to a different level becoming the creator in chief for the German outfit. Brandt has contributed 11 assists for the club in 28 league appearances while adding four goals.  He can also play across the front line and in the midfield which is a key attribute wanted by Klopp.

Klopp has shown several times in his career that he can elevate the levels of young players and Brandt could join the list of German players that improved under his tutelage. The development of Mario Gotze and Marcos Reus is a testament of what could happen to Brandt if he makes the move.

£21 million is a relative bargain in this era of inflated transfer fees and Liverpool would be smart to trigger his release clause before he signs a new contract at the club.  Liverpool have continued to impress in the league with their recent 2-0 victory at home to Chelsea lifting the club back to the summit of the table.
